Ma’ariful Qur’an is a comprehensive Tafsir associated with the scholarship of Mufti Muhammad Shafi Usmani. It provides explanation of Qur’anic verses together with discussions that help readers understand the teachings of the Qur’an in greater depth.
Unlike a simple translation, Tafsir attempts to explain the meanings, background and implications of Qur’anic passages. For this reason, Ma’ariful Qur’an is published as a multi-volume work rather than a single compact translation.
The Urdu edition is available as a complete eight-volume set, covering the Qur’an from Surah Al-Fatihah through Surah An-Naas. Each volume continues the commentary through different portions of the Qur’an, creating a complete reference collection when all eight volumes are read together.
An English edition of Ma’ariful Qur’an is also available as an eight-volume collection. This makes the work accessible to English-speaking readers who want a detailed commentary rather than only an English translation of the Qur’an.
The work is particularly useful for readers who want to study not only the translation of Qur’anic verses but also their explanation and wider context. Its format makes it more suitable for systematic study, reference and Islamic libraries than for casual portable reading.
Readers who require a lighter and more concise option may instead prefer books such as The Meanings of the Noble Qur’an with Explanatory Notes or Aasan Tarjuma-e-Qur’an. Those books serve a different purpose: they provide translation and shorter explanation, whereas Ma’ariful Qur’an is intended as a comprehensive Tafsir.
For students, teachers, families building an Islamic home library, and readers interested in long-term Qur’anic study, a complete Tafsir collection can become an important reference resource.
At Maktaba Darul Uloom, both the subject matter and edition of a book are clearly identified so customers can distinguish between translations, Tafsir works and multi-volume scholarly collections before ordering.
